Future of 500,000 Youth at Stake, Workers Seeking Their Rights Were Lathi-Charged’: MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla

Members of Parliament from the Punjab Congress staged a strong protest in the Parliament premises on Monday against the alleged paper leak incidents in Punjab and the alleged lathi-charge on sanitation workers. Holding placards, the MPs raised slogans against the Punjab government and demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, holding him morally responsible for the incidents.
The protest was led by Punjab Congress President and MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Dr. Amar Singh, and Sher Singh Ghubaya.
During the protest, the Congress MPs alleged that transparency in recruitment examinations and government jobs in Punjab has come under serious question. They claimed that six major paper leak incidents over the past four years have jeopardized the future of the state’s youth, affecting more than 500,000 candidates.
MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla said that young aspirants in Punjab prepare day and night for government jobs, but when examination papers are leaked, years of hard work and aspirations are shattered instantly. He stated that this is not merely an examination irregularity but a serious issue involving the future of lakhs of students and their families.
Aujla demanded a fair and time-bound investigation into every paper leak case. He urged the government to ensure strict legal action against those responsible without providing any political protection and called for strengthening the recruitment process with better transparency, security, and technology.
The Congress MPs also strongly raised the issue of the alleged lathi-charge on sanitation workers. Aujla said that in a democracy, every employee has the constitutional right to raise legitimate demands. If sanitation workers were protesting peacefully, the government should have engaged in dialogue instead of resorting to force. He said the incident raises serious questions about the government’s functioning.
The MPs further alleged that the Punjab government has failed on multiple fronts. They claimed that unemployment is rising, recruitment processes are mired in controversies, and instead of resolving employees’ issues, the government is trying to suppress their voices. They added that people had voted for change, but Punjab is now witnessing increasing unemployment, administrative failures, and public disappointment.
During the demonstration, the Congress MPs demanded that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann take moral responsibility and resign. They warned that if the government fails to address the concerns of youth and employees promptly, the Congress Party will intensify its agitation both inside and outside Parliament.
