Amritsar, January 10 (K.L. Jit Walia):A garbage dump located near the bypass in front of D Block of the posh Ranjit Avenue area has become a serious problem for local residents. The foul smell spreading from the site is causing major inconvenience not only to nearby colony residents but also to people who visit the adjoining park for walks.
Prominent social worker of Amritsar, Inderpal Singh Raja, stated that the Municipal Corporation had initially designated the spot as a temporary garbage dropping point so that waste could be collected and lifted on time. However, due to irregular lifting of garbage, the entire area is now facing unhygienic conditions and persistent foul odor, increasing the risk of infectious diseases.
He pointed out that the area is completely residential, and the accumulation of garbage is severely affecting the daily lives of residents. The issue was recently raised in the Punjab Assembly, but no concrete solution has been implemented so far.
Inderpal Singh Raja has urged the Chief Minister of Punjab, the Local Bodies Minister, the Health Minister, and senior Municipal Corporation officials to immediately relocate the garbage dump to a suitable site away from residential areas to provide relief to the local population.
