Demands Formation of Kashyap Mehra Welfare Board
Amritsar, July 21 (Phulljit Singh Verpal/Manjeet Singh Mehra):A delegation of the Kashyap Mehra community, led by Harjinder Singh Raja, Senior Vice President (Punjab), met Punjab Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker and Garhshankar MLA Jai Krishan Singh Rouri and submitted a memorandum demanding the formation of a Kashyap Mehra Welfare Board.
Speaking on the occasion, Harjinder Singh Raja said that the Kashyap Mehra community has a population of nearly 4 million (40 lakh) in Punjab and is included in the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category. He stated that despite its large population, previous governments failed to provide the community with its due political and social representation.
He added that the present Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government has constituted welfare boards for several communities, giving the Kashyap Mehra community hope that the Punjab Government will soon establish a dedicated Kashyap Mehra Welfare Board as well.
Deputy Speaker Jai Krishan Singh Rouri assured the delegation that he would convey their demand to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and the party leadership and would make every effort to facilitate the formation of the welfare board.
On the occasion, members of the Kashyap Mehra community honored the Deputy Speaker by presenting him with a Siropa (robe of honor) and a portrait of Baba Himmat Singh Ji.
Among those present were Rajinder Singh Safar, Parmjeet Singh Karan Wale, Baldev Singh (President), Sukhdev Raj Pehlwan, Surinder Bhangal (Garhshankar), Harbans Lal (Garhshankar), Captain Harjit Singh, Kuldeep Raj (President), Harjit Singh Majari, Hardeep Singh Sangha, and several other community leaders and representatives.
