Amritsar, March 6 (K.L. Jit Walia) – Under the ongoing anti-drug campaign launched on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police organized a police–public meeting in Zone-3 under “Operation Sampark.” The meeting was led by Police Commissioner Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar.
Councillors from the area, prominent members of society, the secretary of Valla Mandi, and representatives of the Focal Point participated in the meeting. During the interaction, residents shared their suggestions and local concerns, and several issues were resolved on the spot. ADCP City-3 Harpal Singh, ACP East Anubhav Jain, senior officers of Zone-3, and in-charge officials of Sanjh Kendras were also present.
Addressing the gathering, Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that public cooperation is essential to eliminate the menace of drugs from society. He stated that the Amritsar Commissionerate Police is taking strict action against drug traffickers under a zero-tolerance policy. Large quantities of narcotics and drug money are being seized, and properties—both movable and immovable—acquired through drug trafficking are being frozen and demolished.
He further informed that police teams are conducting awareness meetings in schools, colleges, and other educational institutions to educate youth about the harmful effects of drugs. People addicted to drugs are also being encouraged to seek treatment at de-addiction centers.
The Commissioner appealed to citizens that if they receive any information related to drug trafficking or gangster activities, they should contact Punjab Police helpline 112, the Safe Punjab Anti-Drug Helpline 97791-00200, or the Anti-Gangster Helpline 93946-93946. A reward of up to ₹10 lakh will be given to anyone who helps in the arrest of a gangster, and the identity of informants will be kept completely confidential.
According to the police, from January 1, 2026 to March 5, 2026, a total of 337 cases were registered under the NDPS Act and 585 individuals were arrested. During this period, 19.413 kg heroin, 7.130 kg opium, 0.523 kg methamphetamine (ice drug), 4,460 capsules or tablets, and ₹16,09,370 in drug money were seized. Fourteen vehicles used in drug trafficking were also confiscated.
Additionally, 30 actions were taken against gangsters and their associates. Under the anti-drug awareness campaign, 728 people were counseled, out of which 367 individuals were admitted to de-addiction centers and 361 were referred to OOAT centers for treatment.
The Amritsar Commissionerate Police stated that the campaign against drugs and gangster activities will continue with full intensity and will be further strengthened with the cooperation of the public.
