Amritsar, May 15 (Phuljit Singh) — The police station A-Division has registered a case against Raj Kumar Mahajan in connection with an alleged fraud and manipulation of records in the Property Tax Department of the Amritsar Municipal Corporation. The investigation has been initiated on the basis of a written complaint submitted by the Assistant Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation.
According to the complaint, Raj Kumar Mahajan allegedly conspired with certain employees of the Property Tax Department to manipulate property tax records from the financial years 2013-14 to 2024-25 with the intention of taking illegal possession of a building located near Krishna Theatre, outside Chatiwind Gate. It has been alleged that pending property tax dues were unlawfully reduced, causing substantial financial loss to the government treasury.
The complaint further stated that an attempt was also allegedly made to falsely show the property tax for the building near Krishna Theatre, Chatiwind Gate, as deposited for the year 2025-26. The matter came to light during an internal inquiry conducted by Municipal Corporation officials, following which a detailed report was submitted to the Police Commissioner.
As per official documents, after conducting a preliminary investigation, the police registered a case against Raj Kumar Mahajan under Sections 420 (cheating), 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), and 471 (using forged documents) of the Indian Penal Code.
Police are also investigating whether other Municipal Corporation employees or officials were involved in the alleged scam. Sources indicate that more names may surface in the coming days.
Police officials stated that considering the seriousness of the matter, all relevant documents and records are being thoroughly examined, and strict legal action will be taken against those found guilty.
