Amritsar, May 14 (K.L. Jit Walia) — President of Press Club Amritsar, Rajesh Gill, released a video expressing serious concern over the increasing difficulties faced by journalists and alleged neglect during press conferences.
Rajesh Gill said that it is highly condemnable that leaders and police administration are not giving due respect and dignity to journalists. He emphasized that journalists are the fourth pillar of democracy and their respect must be ensured under all circumstances.
He further warned that if such inappropriate behavior continues in the future and journalists are not given proper respect, the Press Club may boycott such press conferences.
Taking a strong stand, he stated that if the issues faced by journalists are not resolved, the Press Club will be forced to take strict decisions. He also specifically mentioned an event held by Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu, alleging that despite extreme heat, journalists were not even offered water, calling it an insult to the media fraternity.
He warned that if journalists are not treated with dignity, reporters across the district may boycott such events.
The statement was also supported by senior vice president Vipin Rana, general secretary Resham Singh, treasurer Raman Sharma, Video Journalists Association president Vishal Sharma, Sukhchain Singh, and Mani Singh.
