Amritsar, April 23 (K.L. Jit Walia): In a major breakthrough under the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe state as per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted a cross-border smuggling module and arrested three accused with 915 grams of ICE (methamphetamine) and five sophisticated pistols.
Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav shared that the arrested individuals have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh alias Sukhha (21), Sola Singh alias Sonu (29), and Karan Singh (22), all residents of village Sahanke in Ferozepur. The recovered weapons include two 9mm Glock pistols, three .30 bore pistols, and two live cartridges.
The DGP stated that preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were in contact with Pakistan-based smugglers through social media platforms. They were receiving consignments of drugs and weapons being dropped via drones across the border. The accused were working as local handlers, supplying narcotics and illegal arms in different regions.
He further added that investigations are underway to uncover the entire network and trace backward and forward linkages of the module.
Providing details of the operation, Police Commissioner Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that acting on specific intelligence, police teams conducted a targeted operation and arrested the suspects. Initially, only one .30 bore pistol was recovered, but during interrogation, further disclosures led to the recovery of 915 grams of ICE and four more pistols.
The Police Commissioner also revealed that consignments of drugs and weapons were being dropped in dense forest areas of the Ferozepur sector. The accused would retrieve these consignments from such locations and distribute them across different areas.
In this regard, an FIR (No. 105 dated 15-04-2026) has been registered at Gate Hakima Police Station, Amritsar under Sections 22-C of the NDPS Act and Section 25 (6, 7(iii), and 8) of the Arms Act.
