Amritsar, March 17 (K.L. Jit Walia) – Under the directions of Deputy Commissioner Amritsar Dalwinderjit Singh, a crucial meeting was held at Press Club Amritsar regarding the conduct of elections and preparation of the voter list. The meeting was led by District Public Relations Officer Inderjit Singh and Assistant Public Relations Officer Yogesh Sharma, with participation from journalists and representatives of various media organizations and unions.
During the meeting, all participants unanimously approved the proposed rules for conducting the elections and preparing the voter list. An 11 member committee was also formed with mutual consent to prepare the voter list as per the established guidelines.
The District Public Relations Officer informed that all journalists and press photographers holding press identity cards issued by the Department of Information and Public Relations Amritsar commonly known as yellow cards will be eligible to participate in the elections. Additionally journalists holding accreditation pink cards and veteran accreditation cards issued by the department will also be allowed to take part in the election process.
Journalists and press photographers who do not possess departmental cards but are associated with newspapers published in Punjab and Chandigarh and registered with Registrar of Newspapers for India will also be eligible to vote and participate. Moreover journalists and photographers affiliated with national and regional satellite news channels listed under DAVP and those working with Punjab government empanelled web portals will be included in the voter list.
To apply for voter registration it is mandatory for journalists to have an authorization or identity card issued by their media organization that is at least six months old. Applications can be submitted at the office of the District Public Relations Officer Room Number 216 Second Floor District Administrative Complex Amritsar from March 18 to March 25 2026 on working days between 10 am and 3 pm.
The draft voter list will be released on March 27 2026. Claims and objections can be submitted from March 30 to April 2 2026. After resolving objections the final voter list will be published on April 6 2026.
It was also clarified that journalists who already possess valid yellow cards accreditation cards or veteran cards do not need to apply again. The date for the Press Club Amritsar elections will be announced after the final voter list is released.
