Amritsar, August 3 (K.L. Jit Walia):Senior Advocate and noted social worker Advocate Prakash Deep Kaur has welcomed the assurance and approach adopted by the Supreme Court regarding the Legal Aid Defense Counsel System (LADCS), describing it as a significant and balanced step in the interest of both the judicial system and the legal fraternity.
She said that the Bar Council of Punjab & Haryana and various Bar Associations had effectively presented the concerns of advocates before the Supreme Court. The fact that the Hon’ble Chief Justice gave these concerns serious consideration reflects the judiciary’s sensitivity and commitment to democratic values.
Advocate Prakash Deep Kaur stated that while the primary objective of the legal aid system is to ensure timely justice for the common and underprivileged people, it is equally important to safeguard the independence of advocates, their professional dignity, and the future of young lawyers. She added that if the new system is framed after proper consultation with the Bar Council and Bar Associations, it will lead to a more transparent, effective, and balanced legal aid framework.
She appreciated the efforts of the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India, the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), the Bar Council of India, the Bar Council of Punjab & Haryana, and Bar Associations across the country, saying that the decision is an excellent example of resolving issues through dialogue and cooperation.
Expressing optimism, Advocate Prakash Deep Kaur said she hopes that the revised legal aid scheme will not only provide quality legal assistance to the public but also fully protect the rights, interests, and professional dignity of advocates. She emphasized that mutual trust and cooperation between the Bar and the judiciary remain the strongest pillars for strengthening the justice delivery system.
