The true measure of any government lies not in its promises, but in the positive changes it brings to people’s lives. Since assuming office in March 2022, the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has introduced several initiatives in administration, education, healthcare, employment, agriculture, and public welfare. According to the government, its priority has been to fulfill election promises by making public services more accessible, transparent, and efficient.
One of the government’s most talked-about initiatives has been the provision of 300 units of free electricity per month to domestic consumers. It has also highlighted the supply of daytime electricity to farmers as a significant achievement, claiming it has improved agricultural convenience and power management.
In the healthcare sector, the expansion of Aam Aadmi Clinics has been a key initiative. The government states that these clinics provide free diagnostic tests, medicines, and primary healthcare services close to people’s homes. It has also expanded cashless treatment benefits for eligible families under the Chief Minister’s Health Scheme.
On the employment front, the government claims that a large number of government jobs have been provided over the past four and a half years, creating new opportunities for youth. Official figures indicate that thousands of appointments have been made in departments such as education, health, police, and others.
In education, efforts have focused on strengthening government school infrastructure, developing smart classrooms, and implementing reforms related to teachers. The government believes these measures are helping create a better learning environment for students.
Regarding law and order, the establishment of the Road Safety Force and campaigns against drug abuse have been presented as major achievements. The government also highlights its efforts to combat corruption and digitize public services.
To strengthen Punjab’s economy, emphasis has been placed on attracting investments, promoting industries, and improving infrastructure. According to the government, these initiatives are expected to generate employment and provide new momentum to industrial development in the state.
More recently, a financial assistance scheme for women has been launched, under which eligible women receive monthly financial support. The government describes this as an important step toward women’s empowerment.
At the same time, it is also true that the ultimate assessment of any government’s performance is made by the people over time. Alongside the government’s claims of development, the opposition continues to raise questions on several issues. In a healthy democracy, discussions about both achievements and challenges are natural.
Nevertheless, it can be said that over the past four and a half years, the Punjab Government has made efforts to advance several public welfare schemes. The long-term impact of these initiatives will become clearer in the years ahead. If the focus on development, transparency, and public service continues, the benefits are expected to reach every section of Punjab’s society.
