Amritsar, June 6 (K.L. Jit Walia, Phuljit Varpal): To further strengthen the Punjab Government’s ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign being conducted under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the De-Addiction Front has initiated constituency-level meetings from the macro to micro level. As part of this initiative, an important meeting was organized in the Amritsar East Assembly Constituency on Friday evening.
During the meeting, feedback was gathered from members of village and ward-level Defence Committees regarding the current drug situation in their respective areas. Detailed discussions were also held on strategies to further intensify the anti-drug campaign.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Jeevan Jyot Kaur said that every section of society must contribute to this fight against drug abuse. She emphasized that Defence Committees and local representatives are the backbone of the campaign, playing a crucial role in raising awareness at the grassroots level and assisting the administration in its efforts.
Amritsar Mayor Jatinder Singh Moti Bhatia stated that drug addiction is a serious social evil and that all sections of society must come forward to eradicate it completely. He praised the Punjab Government’s initiatives towards de-addiction and urged citizens to actively support the campaign.
Dikshit Dhawan, Majha Zone In-Charge of the De-Addiction Front, said that the Punjab Government’s anti-drug initiative is no longer just a government programme but is gradually transforming into a mass public movement. He stressed that the dream of a drug-free Punjab can only be realized through the active participation of people from both rural and urban areas.
The meeting was attended by Advocate Harpal Singh Nijjar, Chairman of the Aam Aadmi Party Legal Wing (Majha Zone), Kapil Chaddha, Chairman of the AAP Trade Commission for Amritsar East, Sahib Singh, Lucky Kapoor, S.K. Kler, and officials from the administration, including Hitesh Veer Gupta (Nodal Officer, Amritsar East and RTO Amritsar), Ravinder Singh (ACP East), and SHOs from various police stations.
In addition, all block presidents, ward and village executive presidents, and conveners of the De-Addiction Front in Amritsar East participated in the meeting. The attendees assured complete cooperation with the government and administration in making Punjab a drug-free state.
Speakers also highlighted that under the spirit of “Villages/Cities with the Chief Minister,” people’s concerns and suggestions are being directly conveyed to the government to ensure a lasting solution to the drug menace.
