Bridge Pillars Have Become Weak Thousands of Vehicles and School Students Pass Through Daily
Qadian, May 26 (Gurpreet Singh) – The poor condition of canal bridges in Punjab continues to pose a serious risk of accidents every day. One such dangerously damaged bridge is located near the village of Tugalwala close to Riariki College in Qadian, where a major accident could occur at any time.
Sharing information regarding the issue, respected local residents stated that such bridges are becoming a cause of death. They said that the pillars of this bridge have become extremely weak, while the safety railings on the sides of most parts of the bridge have already broken, creating the constant danger of vehicles falling into the canal.
They further explained that heavy vehicles regularly pass over this old and narrow bridge, which could lead to a major tragedy at any moment. Along with heavy traffic, school students also cross the bridge daily, increasing the level of concern.
Residents stated that they have informed the administration several times about the poor condition of the bridge, but neither the administration nor the government has paid any attention to the issue.
They added that the bridge is very old and has never undergone proper repair work. Several bricks beneath the bridge pillars have already broken apart, and in many places the condition of the pillars has become extremely dangerous.
The residents also criticized the Punjab Government, saying that while the government talks about transforming Punjab into a prosperous and vibrant state through speeches and advertisements, the reality of such neglected bridges exposes the hollowness of those claims.
In conclusion, the locals said that if the Punjab Government cannot even improve the condition of basic infrastructure like bridges, then people cannot expect much from the government in the future. They warned that if any major accident occurs on the canal bridge in the future, the concerned department and the government would be held responsible.
