Attackers Had Planned to Harm BJP District President Harjit Singh Sandhu and Other Leaders at Party Office
Tarn Taran, May 12 (Navjit Sonu, Iqbal Singh Ahluwalia) – Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu visited the Bharatiya Janata Party office in Tarn Taran following the alleged hooliganism and life-threatening attack carried out by unidentified persons at the BJP district office on Sunday.
On this occasion, BJP District President Harjit Singh Sandhu, co-incharge and state spokesperson Naresh Sharma, district office bearers, mandal presidents, senior leaders, and a large number of BJP supporters were present.
Addressing a press conference, Ravneet Singh Bittu said that law and order in Punjab has completely collapsed and that anti-social elements have become emboldened under the Aam Aadmi Party government. He stated that the attack on the BJP office in broad daylight was not merely an attack on a political party but a direct assault on democracy itself.
Bittu alleged that the main targets of the attackers were District President Harjit Singh Sandhu and other BJP leaders. He said that fortunately Sandhu had left the office a few minutes before the attack, otherwise there could have been major loss of life.
Calling the incident extremely serious, Bittu said it would not be tolerated under any circumstances. Targeting the AAP government, he alleged that the people of Punjab had been deceived in the name of “change.” He further claimed that instead of providing security to the public, the government was engaged in intimidating and suppressing political opponents.
He said that Punjab was witnessing “goonda raj” instead of the rule of law. Ravneet Singh Bittu added that anyone trying to frighten BJP workers should understand that every BJP worker would stand firmly for the unity of the country and protection of democracy.
He also warned the Punjab Police and administration that if the accused were not arrested soon, the BJP would launch a large-scale statewide protest. He demanded a thorough investigation into the conspiracy behind the attack and strict punishment for those responsible.
District President Harjit Singh Sandhu thanked Ravneet Singh Bittu for visiting the office and said that every BJP worker stands united like a family and would not be intimidated by such incidents. He added that while everyone has the right to express their views in a democracy, violence and hooliganism have no place in society.
In conclusion, Ravneet Singh Bittu appealed to the people of Punjab to remain cautious of forces attempting to disturb the peace of the state. He said the BJP would continue its struggle for peace, development, and public safety in Punjab and would not allow the atmosphere of harmony in the state to be disturbed at any cost.
Several BJP leaders and workers from across the district were also present during the event.
