Amritsar (K.L. Jit Walia):The Trade Wing of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged a strong protest today at Hall Bazaar, Amritsar, against the increase in gas cylinder prices by the Central Government. During the protest, sharp criticism was directed at the BJP-led Union Government.
The protest was led by Majha Zone In-Charge Sheetal Juneja. Prominent leaders present included MLA Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar, Lok Sabha In-Charge Jaskaran Bandesha, Trade Wing President Abhishek Bansal, Women’s Wing President Kamna Anand, Trade Wing East Constituency Chairman Kapil Chadha, Majha Zone Media In-Charge Advocate Arvinder Singh Bhatti, Majha Zone Legal Wing Chairman Advocate Harpal Singh Nijjar, senior AAP leader Gurpreet Singh Kataria, along with hundreds of party workers.
Addressing the gathering, Sheetal Juneja, Dr. Nijjar, Bandesha and other AAP leaders said that the BJP-led Central Government has become anti-people and has burdened common households. They stated that the price of a commercial LPG cylinder has now risen to ₹993, marking the third consecutive monthly hike.
They pointed out that earlier increases included ₹195.50 on April 1 and ₹114.50 on March 1, taking the total hike to more than ₹1300.
AAP leaders said that while energy prices have risen globally due to the West Asia crisis, the Central Government should have taken steps to provide relief to citizens. Instead, they alleged, the government has increased the financial burden on the public.
They further accused the BJP of caring about common people only during elections and ignoring them afterward.
Senior leaders present included Ravinder Hans, Surjit Singh Malli, Rahil Khanna, Sandeep Singh, Ramesh Awasthi, Manjit Singh Mann, Vineet Aneja, Kulwant Singh, Varun Rana, Ashu Kumar, Diljit Singh, Deepak Kumar, Sunny Berry, Jatinder Sethi, Jaspal Sharma, Sanjeev Kumar Lalli, among others.
