Amritsar (K.L. Jit Walia):Following the directions of Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal, Majha leader Bikram Singh Majithia, and District President Surjit Singh Pehlwan, a protest was held today in Amritsar North Constituency against the power cuts being imposed in Punjab.
The demonstration was held outside the Power Colony Office on Majitha Road under the leadership of R.P. Singh Maini, Chief Sevadar of North Constituency. Circle presidents, office-bearers, sarpanches, ward in-charges, and a large number of party workers participated in the protest.
On the occasion, leaders said that continuous power cuts during the intense summer heat have pushed people into severe hardship. Industries are being disrupted, employees are affected, students’ studies are suffering, and normal life has been badly impacted. Water supply is also being affected due to the power cuts.
They said that during the previous government led by Sukhbir Singh Badal, Punjab was a power-surplus state, but since 2017, instead of strengthening infrastructure, successive governments have increased debt and deprived people of even basic amenities.
Shiromani Akali Dal leaders demanded that uninterrupted electricity supply be ensured during the summer season so that people do not have to suffer further due to prolonged power cuts.
Those present on the occasion included:
Balwinder Singh Tung, Pawan Kumar Happy, Sandeep Singh Bhullar (Advocate), Baljit Singh, Amandeep Singh Chandi, Shamsher Singh Shera, Mahesh Verma, Kamal Bangali, Jagjit Singh Sweety Khalsa, Dr. Balkar Nair, Narinder Singh, Vikram Singh Gill, Deepak Shaili, Jaspreet Singh, Satpal Singh Mohar, Ajay Kumar, Gurdit Singh, Darminder Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Panna Lal, Hardayal Singh, Bashir Singh, and other workers.
