Jalandhar (K L Jit Walia):Continuing its annual tradition, Pragati Kala Kendra Landra will organize the 9th Prati Mela on Sunday March 8 at Prati Bhawan Prati Colony Palno in Jalandhar. The event is dedicated to respected K C Sulek also known as Kartar Chand Sulek a fearless follower of the ideology of B R Ambedkar and to the memory of theatre martyr Master Makkan Prati.
Providing details about the event, organization director and noted playwright Sodhi Rana said that several distinguished personalities who have made remarkable contributions in social and cultural fields will be honored during the program. Awards to be presented include the Balraj Sahni Memorial Award Lok Kavi Charan Das Nidar Award and the Master Makkan Prati Lecturer Award. The occasion will also witness the release of books written by various authors.
During the mela different theatre groups will present plays and choreographed performances highlighting themes related to social awareness and historical heritage. In addition a special art exhibition and an Artist Camp based on portraits of Bahujan icons will be organized in memory of late artists Monica Pal and Charanjit Channi Lasada. The exhibition will be led by Kulpat Rana from Canada along with Deepak Kumar and Jaswant Sultanpuri under the Pragati Artist Group.
Renowned scholars writers poets and intellectuals will share their views during the event. Book stalls connecting visitors with national and international literature will also be set up making the mela a major attraction for literature lovers.
The organizers have appealed to art enthusiasts writers and aware citizens to attend the event in large numbers and contribute to the success of this cultural gathering.
