Amritsar, February 6 (K. L. Jit Walia): writ petition was filed today in the Delhi High Court by advocates Kuljeet Singh Sachdeva and Tarunjit Singh Jolly, in which detailed arguments were presented before the court. Through this petition, the order issued by the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi extending the term of the current Executive Board of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) by nine months has been challenged.
The Hon’ble Delhi High Court has issued notices to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi and the Directorate of Gurdwara Elections, directing them to file their responses within two weeks.
The petition states that under the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Act, 1971 and the Rules of 1974, neither the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi nor the Directorate of Gurdwara Elections has any legal authority to extend the tenure of the Executive Board of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee.
It has further been argued that under Section 5 of the Act, the term of the Committee cannot be extended even by a single day, and no delay of any kind is permissible in conducting the general elections of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee.
