Amritsar, February 5 (K.L. Jit Walia):Mr. Sheetal Juneja, Member of the Punjab State Traders Commission (PSTC) and In-charge of the Majha Zone, has expressed gratitude to Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann and the State Finance, Planning, Excise and Taxation Minister Mr. Harpal Singh Cheema for assuring priority-based resolution of issues faced by the trading community.
Addressing the press, Mr. Juneja said that a high-level meeting of the Punjab State Traders Commission was chaired yesterday in Chandigarh by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema. The meeting focused on further strengthening engagement with the trading community, improving grievance redressal mechanisms, and enhancing technical capacity at the district level.
He informed that the Finance Minister issued clear directions to Chairpersons of District Traders Committees to actively engage with traders in their respective areas and gather feedback on grassroots-level issues. To ensure prompt resolution of local grievances, special district-level camps will be organised on February 10 and 11.
Mr. Juneja further stated that the Finance Minister directed that issues resolvable at the district level should be systematically documented and forwarded to the Punjab State Traders Commission for early resolution. More complex matters or feedback requiring state-level intervention will be properly listed and shared with the Commission to ensure effective and time-bound solutions.
During the meeting, special emphasis was laid on technical empowerment of traders’ committees. Detailed information was provided on key technical aspects related to GST filing, with the objective of equipping district committee members with the necessary knowledge to assist traders in complying with regulatory requirements.
Mr. Juneja said that various taxation-related issues were discussed in detail. Particular consensus was reached on ensuring a cooperative and trader-friendly approach by tax officials during GST inspections, organising meetings and grievance redressal camps across different districts of Punjab in the coming days, and strengthening coordination between the Tax Department and the trading community to create a business-friendly environment.
He added that the Finance Minister assured that the Punjab Government is fully committed to safeguarding the interests of traders and will resolve their issues on a priority basis. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government is continuously working towards creating a transparent and business-friendly ecosystem through strong district-level outreach and robust state-level policies.
