Amritsar, September 8 (K.L. Jit Walia): The first day of the block-level competitions under Khedan Watan Punjab Dian 2026 concluded with great enthusiasm in Amritsar district. The games are being organised by the Punjab Government and the Sports Department, Punjab, with the objective of connecting youth with sports, encouraging sporting talent and further strengthening the sports culture across the state.
Giving details, District Sports Officer Amritsar Gurpreet Singh said that the first phase of the block-level games is being held from September 8 to September 11, 2026, while the second phase will be organised from September 14 to September 17, 2026. Under the first phase, competitions for the Under-14 category began today.
He said that competitions at the block level are being organised in Athletics, Football, Kabaddi National Style, Kabaddi Circle Style, Volleyball Smashing, Volleyball Shooting and Kho-Kho.
Block Ajnala
The games in Block Ajnala were organised at Government College, Ajnala. The competitions were inaugurated by Ajnala MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal.
On the occasion, he encouraged young players to stay away from social evils such as drugs and participate actively in sports. He said that sports not only promote a healthy lifestyle among youth but also teach discipline and team spirit.
Block Attari
The Block Attari competitions were held at Olympian Shamsher Singh Senior Secondary School, Attari. The block-level games were inaugurated by ADC Jaswinder Singh and SDM Amritsar-II Gurminder Singh.
Volleyball: In the Under-14 boys’ category, the team of Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School, Attari secured first place. The school’s girls’ team also secured first position in the Under-14 category.
Football: In the Under-14 boys’ competition, Olympian Shamsher Singh Senior Secondary School, Attari secured first place, while Mount Litera Zee School finished second.
Block Verka
The games in Block Verka were organised at the Meritorious School. The competitions were inaugurated by Davinder Singh Sandhu, brother of West constituency MLA Dr. Jasbir Singh Sandhu.
Kabaddi National Style: In the Under-14 girls’ category, Baba Deep Singh Sports Club secured first place.
Kabaddi Circle Style: In the Under-14 boys’ competition, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Youth Club, Manawala secured first position.
Athletics: In the Under-14 boys’ 600-metre race, Arshdeep Singh of Government Senior Secondary School, Jhammewal secured first place. Sukhmanjit Singh of Government Senior Secondary School, Wadala Johal finished second, while Lovepreet Singh of Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Nava Pind secured third place.
In the Under-14 girls’ 600-metre race, Vipnapreet Kaur of Convent School, Jandiala secured first position. Jasnapreet Kaur of Government High School, Kala finished second, while Rubalpreet Kaur of Government High School, Kala secured third position.
Block Tarsikka
The block-level games in Tarsikka were organised at Government Senior Secondary School, Tarsikka. The competitions were inaugurated by the school’s Principal Deepak Kumar.
Block Chogawan
The games in Block Chogawan were organised at Mewa Singh Sports Stadium, Lopoke.
Kabaddi Circle Style: In the Under-14 boys’ category, Government Senior Secondary School, Sarangra secured first place, Bhatewand Club finished second and Satya Bharti School, Chogawan secured third place.

Kabaddi National Style: In the Under-14 boys’ competition, Government Senior Secondary School, Sarangra secured first position, while Bhithewad Club finished second.
District Sports Officer Gurpreet Singh said that players are participating in the block-level games with tremendous enthusiasm. He said that sports not only channelise the energy of young people in the right direction but also develop discipline, cooperation and a healthy competitive spirit among them.
Coaches from the Sports Department and other officials were also present on the occasion.
