Hon’ble Chairperson, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA)-cum-District and Sessions Judge, Amritsar, Smt. Jatinder Kaur, visited and inspected Central Jail, Amritsar on August 31, 2026. Secretary of DLSA, Amritsar, Shri Amardeep Singh Bains, was also present on the occasion.
During the visit, the Hon’ble Chairperson inspected the women’s ward and high-security ward of the jail. She reviewed the accommodation facilities available to inmates, sanitation arrangements, medical facilities, security arrangements and other measures related to their overall welfare.
During the inspection, Smt. Jatinder Kaur interacted with the inmates and patiently heard their problems and complaints. She directed the jail administration to ensure that genuine grievances of inmates are addressed promptly in accordance with the law.
The inmates were also informed about the free legal aid services provided by the District Legal Services Authority, Amritsar. Eligible inmates were encouraged to avail themselves of these facilities.
The Hon’ble Chairperson emphasized the need to ensure the protection of the legal and human rights of prisoners, stating that legal assistance, healthcare, sanitation and other welfare facilities must be provided to them as per the law.
Shri Rajiv Kumar Arora, Superintendent, Central Jail, Amritsar, was also present. He briefed the Hon’ble Chairperson about the functioning of the jail, welfare initiatives being undertaken for inmates, and measures being taken to maintain security and discipline within the premises.
The visit formed part of the continued efforts of the District Legal Services Authority, Amritsar, to regularly monitor the welfare of inmates, provide timely legal assistance and ensure the protection of the rights and dignity of every person lodged in the jail.
