Writers from Italy, France, Germany, Denmark, Belgium and the United Kingdom participated
(K.L. Jit Walia): A poetry gathering dedicated to the traditional festivals of Sawan and Bhadon was recently organized jointly by the European Punjabi Sahit Academy and Sahit Sur Sangam Sabha, Italy. Punjabi writers and poets from Italy, France, Germany, Denmark, Belgium and the United Kingdom participated in the online event, which was conducted through Zoom.
Kulwant Kaur Dhillon, President of Southall Kala Kendra, and Dr. Surinder Kaur Narula participated in the programme as special guests.
The event began with a warm welcome by the Academy’s Chief Advisor, Prof. Jaspal Singh, Italy. Thereafter, the hosts Daljinder Singh Rahil and Jaswinder Kaur Mintu invited the participating writers to share their literary creations.
Poets and writers including Zafar Awan (Denmark), Prem Pal Singh (Italy), Aarti Bakshi (Italy), Nachhattar Bhogal (UK), Mumtaz Malik (France), Neelu (Germany), Narinder Pannu, Jeet Surjit (Belgium), Jagtar Singh (Italy) and Prof. Jaspal Singh (Italy) presented their works and added vibrancy to the gathering.
Special guests Dr. Surinder Kaur Narula and Kulwant Kaur Dhillon (UK) highlighted the social, religious, natural and family dimensions of the Sawan-Bhadon festivals. They also discussed their relevance in the contemporary context.
The guests appreciated such cultural and literary programmes being organized on foreign soil and described them as a positive and encouraging sign for Punjab, Punjabi language and Punjabi identity.
At the conclusion, Major Singh Khakh, President of Sahit Sur Sangam Sabha, Italy, thanked all the participants and guests for their presence and contribution. He also shared one of his own literary creations.
