Permanent solution to garbage problem, decision to regularize outsourced employees among key resolutions
Batala, August 21 (Balwinder Bhalla): Several historic resolutions aimed at the development and progress of Batala city were passed unanimously during the first House meeting of Batala Municipal Corporation held today. MLA from Batala Aman Sher Singh Sherry Kalsi, Corporation Commissioner Gursimran Singh Dhillon, Mayor Bhupinder Singh Bajwa, Senior Deputy Mayor Sukhraj Kaur, Deputy Mayor Neelam Chauhan and all councillors were present at the meeting.
Addressing the newly elected councillors, MLA Sherry Kalsi, Corporation Commissioner and Mayor Batala congratulated them and said that people-oriented development works would be undertaken in the city with the cooperation of all councillors. A total of 27 resolutions were passed unanimously during the House meeting.
Permanent solution to Batala’s garbage problem
Speaking to the media, MLA Sherry Kalsi said that the biggest problem faced by Batala city is the lack of adequate land for garbage disposal, an issue residents have been facing for nearly seven decades.
He said that the Aam Aadmi Party government would work towards providing a permanent solution to the problem. A resolution was passed to sell the Corporation-owned land located near Malhotra Petrol Pump at Khajuri Gate, which is situated at a prime location in the city. The funds generated from the sale will be used to purchase a larger piece of land outside the city, where proper arrangements for garbage segregation and solid waste management will be developed.
The funds obtained from the sale will also be utilized to strengthen the financial position of the Municipal Corporation, clear outstanding liabilities and undertake development and public welfare works.
Resolution to bring outsourced employees on contract
Another major decision taken by the House was the resolution to bring outsourced employees working in various departments of the Batala Municipal Corporation under contractual arrangements.
The resolution covers 19 Clerk-cum-Data Entry Operators, sanitary clerks, sewadars, gardeners, electricians and outsourced employees working in the fire brigade, along with a proposal to bring Tata ACE drivers working on an outsourced basis under DC rates. Resolutions regarding providing sanitation worker jobs on compassionate grounds were also passed.
Development works around Gurdwara Sri Kandh Sahib
Resolutions were also passed for installing streetlights on routes leading to Gurdwara Sri Kandh Sahib, constructing new historic entry gates and carrying out development works in various wards.
Several development works were also approved in connection with the annual marriage anniversary celebrations of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
Sherry Kalsi calls for collective efforts
MLA Sherry Kalsi said that the Aam Aadmi Party is a party of ordinary people and that several public welfare initiatives have been undertaken under the leadership of party supremo Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
He urged all councillors to work tirelessly for the development, beautification and welfare of Batala. He said that being given an opportunity to serve the historic and religious city of Batala was a responsibility, and everyone should work together for its progress.
Sherry Kalsi further said that ever since the people of Batala gave him an opportunity to serve, he has remained available to them around the clock. With collective efforts, Batala would be developed as one of Punjab’s most beautiful and progressive cities, he said.
Employees express gratitude
The employees covered under the contractual arrangement became emotional while thanking MLA Sherry Kalsi and the Corporation Mayor. They said they had been providing services through outsourcing for several years and appreciated the decision taken by the newly formed Aam Aadmi Party-led Municipal Corporation in its very first House meeting.
