Ferozepur, August 21 (Rajiv Kumar): Additional District Magistrate, Ferozepur, Dr. Amandeep Kaur, PCS, has issued orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, restricting the sale of Pregabalin capsules and tablets with formulations above 75 mg.
The Additional District Magistrate said that the Civil Surgeon, Ferozepur, had brought to her notice that the medicine was allegedly being misused by certain anti-social elements. In view of this, restrictions on Pregabalin formulations above 75 mg were considered necessary.
Pregabalin Not to Be Sold Without Original Prescription
According to the order, retailers, chemists, medical store owners, hospital pharmacists and other persons will not be permitted to sell Pregabalin 75 mg without an original medical prescription.
Sellers have also been directed to maintain proper records of the sale of Pregabalin up to 75 mg. Records, including purchase and sale bills, will have to be maintained. The original prescription must also carry the required stamp and details such as the name of the chemist/retailer/trader, date of purchase and quantity of tablets or capsules supplied.
Repeat Purchase on the Same Prescription Prohibited
The order further directs every retailer, chemist, medical store owner and hospital pharmacist to verify that the medicine mentioned on the original prescription has not already been purchased from another shop.
Sellers must also ensure that the quantity supplied does not exceed the number of days prescribed by the doctor.
Medicine to Remain Available at Jan Aushadhi Store
According to the administration, patients who genuinely require Pregabalin for medical treatment will be able to obtain the medicine from the medical store operated by the Jan Aushadhi Generic Drug Store within Civil Hospital, Ferozepur City.
The person in charge of the Jan Aushadhi Generic Store has been directed to maintain proper records of the purchase and sale of all formulations of Pregabalin and ensure compliance with all other instructions contained in the order.
Orders Effective for Two Months
The orders issued by Additional District Magistrate Dr. Amandeep Kaur will remain in force for two months from the date of issuance. The administration has directed concerned medicine sellers and pharmacies to strictly comply with the prescribed requirements regarding sale, prescriptions and record maintenance.
