BJP leader and former IAS officer fighting for the right to education again attacks the Mann government
Amritsar: 12 January ( Kl jit walia):BJP State General Secretary and former IAS officer Dr. Jagmohan Singh Raju, who is fighting for the right to education in the state, has once again targeted the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann government on this issue. He directly alleged that the government is running away from the education of children from Dalit and economically weaker families.
Meeting the media at the Amritsar Press Club today, Dr. Jagmohan Raju said that the Right to Education Act was enacted in 2009 and implemented nationwide in 2010, but it has not been implemented in Punjab to date. After entering politics, he raised this issue before the Honorable Court. The government has received continuous warnings and instructions from there, but the government is not taking it seriously. He was accompanied by Gurmukh Singh Bal, Suraj Bhardwaj, and others.
The former IAS officer stated that every year, 70,000-80,000 children in this category are admitted in the state, who need quality education. However, due to the non-implementation of this Act, approximately 1 million children have been deprived of their right to education. He explained that under this Act, every private school is required to enroll 25% of its students from Dalit and economically disadvantaged families, based on its capacity. Any school that refuses to do so could face cancellation of its accreditation.
Dr. Raju stated that the government has issued a notification regarding this Act for the 2025-26 session. Currently, he is raising awareness about this issue. He stated that the government has also issued helpline numbers—98885-07770 and 88726-98208—to facilitate admissions through the portal created by the government and to raise awareness. He has appealed to parents to call these numbers and enroll their children in any private school within a 3-kilometer radius. He has also appealed to political parties, the public, and social organizations to participate in this public and national cause, so that the education revolution can reach every home. Currently, he is launching a campaign to disseminate this information to every household.
