Amritsar, August 2 (K.L. Jit Walia):A solemn tribute was paid to the great freedom fighter Shaheed Udham Singh on the occasion of his martyrdom day at the School of Eminence, Chheharta. The commemorative event, organized by the school’s NCC Department, featured chart-making, speech, and poetry recitation competitions in which students participated enthusiastically.
School Principal Mrs. Manmeet Kaur said that such events inspire students to develop patriotism and draw motivation from the lives and sacrifices of the nation’s martyrs.
During the programme, Mrs. Amanpreet Kaur, Mrs. Manika Kaushal, NCC Officer Sukhpal Singh Sandhu, and Subedar Gurdev Singh (1st Punjab Battalion NCC, Amritsar) spoke in detail about the life, patriotism, and extraordinary sacrifice of Shaheed Udham Singh. They highlighted his inspiring journey from Sunam to the Central Khalsa Orphanage in Amritsar and later to London, where he carried out his historic mission.
Mrs. Manika Kaushal recited a moving poem dedicated to Shaheed Udham Singh, while beautifully designed charts prepared by NCC cadets were a major attraction of the event. The programme was skillfully anchored by NCC Cadet Neha.
Addressing the gathering, Principal Manmeet Kaur said that India’s freedom was achieved through the sacrifices of countless martyrs, and safeguarding it is the responsibility of every citizen. She urged students to remain aware of both the rights granted by the Constitution and the duties they owe to the nation.
The event was attended by Lieutenant Harmanpreet Singh Uppal, Mrs. Balbir Kaur, Mrs. Manjeet Kaur, Mrs. Amarjeet Kaur, the school staff, and a large number of NCC cadets.
