Amritsar, June 25 (K.L. Jit Walia):The Punjabi Cultural Forum and Literary Society, Amritsar, organized an impressive literary event at the Sardar Karam Singh Historian and Comrade Mota Singh Jhabal Library. The programme was presided over by the institution’s founder and chairman Sardar Jasbir Singh Jhabal, Dr. Davinder Kaur, farmer leader Sucha Singh Ajnala, and Balwinder Singh Jhabal.
Renowned social worker Dr. Swaiman Singh Pakhoke (USA), recognized for his remarkable humanitarian services during the farmers’ movement, attended the event as the chief guest. Society President Dr. Rajbir Kaur Bir Grewal and Chairman Jasbir Singh Jhabal welcomed him with a bouquet.
The gathering was addressed by Dr. Davinderpreet Kaur, Sucha Singh Ajnala, and Jasbir Singh Jhabal. During the programme, the society also released its magazine Satrangi, dedicating it to Dr. Swaiman Singh and the presidium.
Speaking on the occasion, Jasbir Singh Jhabal highlighted Punjab’s rich cultural heritage and recalled that Dr. Swaiman Singh’s father had successfully led a student movement for bus pass concessions during his student days. He added that coming from a family with a strong legacy of public service, Dr. Swaiman Singh made history during the farmers’ agitation by providing free medical services to protesters. In recognition of these outstanding humanitarian efforts, the society honoured him with the Bhagat Puran Singh Social Service Award.
Expressing gratitude, Dr. Swaiman Singh thanked all the poets, writers, and distinguished guests, saying it was a matter of great pride to be honoured by the Punjabi Cultural Forum and Literary Society in the historic village of Jhabal.
The programme also featured poetry recitations by Dr. Gursimran Singh Buttar, Dr. Rajbir Kaur Bir Grewal, Balwinder Kaur Pandher, and Dr. Davinder, focusing on Sant Ram Udasi, Dr. Swaiman Singh’s personality, and the farmers’ movement.
Dr. Swaiman Singh was presented with a traditional shawl (Loi) and the Bhagat Puran Singh Social Service Award. Members of his medical team, including Shamsher Singh, Avtar Singh Sursingh, Amritpal Singh, Angrez Singh, Akashdeep Singh, Pehlwan Pakhoke, and Navroop Singh, were also honoured with Punjabi-script shawls.
The event was attended by several distinguished personalities, including Gurvinder Singh Jhabal, J.P.S. Kundra, Gurtej Singh, Manjit Singh Jhabal, Pritam Singh Bhatti, Harjot Singh Chhapa, Gurdeep Singh Bhikhiwind, Balwinder Singh Bakipur, Kulwant Singh Chhapa, Navpreet Singh, Ravinder Singh, Sukhdev Singh Thatta, Jaimal Singh Pahuwind, Ranjit Singh Rana Panjwar, Prem Singh Siddhwan, Raj Kaur Padhri, Mahinder Singh Patti, and Pritam Singh Patti.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the society’s General Secretary, Satbir Singh.
