Dubai-based smuggler is the mastermind behind the module, says Police Commissioner Gurpreet Bhullar
Amritsar, June 11 (K.L. Jit Walia): In a major breakthrough under the Punjab Government’s ongoing campaign to make the state drug-free, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted a cross-border drug trafficking module and arrested six individuals, including two minors, with the recovery of 30.045 kilograms of heroin.
The information was shared by Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, who stated that the operation was carried out as part of the anti-drug drive launched under the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
The arrested accused have been identified as Gautam (24) of Fateh Singh Colony, Amritsar; Kabir alias Kaku (22) of Chheharta, Amritsar; Sameer alias Sabharwal (18) of Amritsar; and Gurpreet Singh alias Keeda (18) of Orchid Valley, Amritsar. Two minors were also apprehended in the case. Kabir alias Kaku has a criminal history, with a previous NDPS case already registered against him at Chheharta Police Station.
Apart from the heroin consignment, police also seized a motorcycle allegedly used for drug trafficking activities.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were in contact with a Dubai-based drug smuggler, who was facilitating cross-border heroin trafficking. Acting on his instructions, the accused allegedly collected consignments from designated locations and distributed them across Punjab.
He added that further investigations are underway to identify other members of the network, trace financial transactions, and uncover possible hawala links associated with the racket.
Sharing details of the operation, Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that acting on intelligence inputs, police teams arrested Gautam along with two minors and recovered 30.045 kg heroin from their possession. Based on Gautam’s disclosures, three more accused—Kabir alias Kaku, Sameer alias Sabharwal, and Gurpreet Singh alias Keeda—were subsequently arrested.
The Police Commissioner stated that investigations have identified the Dubai-based smuggler as the mastermind of the module. He is already wanted in three major NDPS cases, including a 42-kg heroin recovery case and a 10-kg ICE recovery case. Operating from Dubai, the accused allegedly lured young individuals, including minors, with money and used them for receiving and distributing drug consignments.
A case has been registered at Chheharta Police Station, Amritsar, under Sections 21-C, 25, and 29 of the NDPS Act vide FIR No. 122 dated June 3, 2026.
