Amritsar, June 10 (K.L. Jit Walia):Punjab-born IPS officer Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal has assumed charge as the Director General of Police (DGP) and Head of the Tamil Nadu Police Force. A 1994-batch IPS officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre, Aggarwal was serving as the Special Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF) in New Delhi before being appointed to the state’s top police position.
According to available information, Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal completed his schooling at MSD Public School, Bathinda, before clearing the prestigious UPSC Civil Services Examination in 1994. His father, Late Prakash Chand Aggarwal, was a renowned advocate in Bathinda.
A graduate in Law from Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, Mahesh Aggarwal is proficient in Tamil, English, Hindi, and Punjabi. Advocate Rajan Garg, who studied in the Integrated LLB course one year junior to Aggarwal and is currently President of the MSD Public School Management Committee, Bathinda, said that they remain in regular contact.
He also shared that Mahesh Aggarwal comes from a distinguished family. His eldest brother, Justice Virender Aggarwal, serves as a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, while another brother, Rajinder Aggarwal, is posted as a District and Sessions Judge in Hoshiarpur.
