Amritsar, June 9 (K.L. Jit Walia):The Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is set to launch a special project for the cleaning and restoration of the holy Sarovar (sacred pond) at Bhagwan Valmiki Teerth Sthal. The cleaning work is expected to begin shortly.
Sharing this information during a press conference at Shri Valmiki Teerth, Shri Bal Jogi Pragat Nath, Chairman of the Advisory Board of Bhagwan Valmiki Ji Teerth Sthal Shrine Board, stated that the state government will spend ₹3.74 crore on the project. The work will include removal of silt, filling the Sarovar with clean sand, and carrying out other developmental activities. He added that the tendering process has already been completed.
Shri Bal Jogi Pragat Nath further informed that the Punjab Government has already initiated multiple development projects worth approximately ₹17.72 crore at Bhagwan Valmiki Teerth Sthal, and work is progressing rapidly.
According to him, the development plan includes:
₹3.74 crore for cleaning and restoration of the holy Sarovar.
₹2.80 crore for painting and polishing the main temple, repairing pillars along the approach road, and silicon cutting of sandstone structures.
₹2.42 crore for repairs of stonework in the congregation hall, painting of the Langar Hall, Sarai, and Panorama Hall.
₹1.74 crore for new furniture, air conditioners, and other facilities in the Sarai for pilgrims.
More than ₹5 crore for increasing STP capacity, renovation of bathrooms, installation of new ACs and geysers, and upgrading the fire safety system.
He emphasized that there is no shortage of funds for the development and beautification of the sacred site.
On the occasion, Sonia Mann, Aam Aadmi Party’s in-charge for the Rajasansi Assembly constituency, said that no effort would be spared in enhancing and beautifying this revered place. She urged people to follow the teachings of Bhagwan Valmiki Ji, including love, sacrifice, and service to humanity, to build a better society.
She added that the immortal epic Ramayana, composed by Adi Kavi Bhagwan Valmiki Ji, will continue to guide humanity towards truth for generations to come. Sonia Mann also stated that the Aam Aadmi Party-led government is the first administration genuinely working for the welfare of marginalized and underprivileged sections of society.
Before the commencement of the Sarovar cleaning project, Shri Bal Jogi Pragat Nath, Sonia Mann, and other dignitaries ceremonially collected and preserved the sacred water of the Sarovar in traditional vessels (Gagars), so that it can be reintroduced into the pond after the cleaning work is completed.
Chairman of the Safai Karamchari Commission Chandan Grewal and Chairman of the Dalit Development Board Vijay Danav also thanked Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann for the development and beautification initiatives at Bhagwan Valmiki Teerth Sthal.
Several other dignitaries, including Madhur Bhatia, Pawan Daravind, Shashi Gill, Kumar Darshan, Baba Nachhattar Nath, and Mahant Manjit Gir, were also present on the occasion.
