Issue relates to the alleged defeat of a Congress-won seat in Majitha
Amritsar, May 31 (K.L. Jit Walia): Former Punjab Chief Minister and Member of Parliament Charanjit Singh Channi visited Sri Harmandir Sahib today during a three-day Punjab tour along with a delegation of around twenty Members of Parliament in his capacity as Chairman of the Parliamentary Agriculture Committee.
Upon his arrival at Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib, he was welcomed by senior Congress leaders. During the visit, Majitha Congress constituency in-charge Bhagwant Pal Singh Sachar briefed Channi in detail about the alleged irregularities and injustices that took place during the Municipal Council elections in Majitha.
Sachar alleged that Congress candidate Pradeep Kaur, who had won from Ward No. 7, was not issued the victory certificate, and instead, the defeated candidate was declared the winner. He further alleged that several officials were involved in the matter through collusion.
Responding to the concerns, Channi stated that when the Congress Party returns to power, strict legal action would be taken against officials found involved in corruption or unlawful activities. He said that such officials would be punished according to the law.
Encouraging Sachar, Channi praised his efforts, saying that despite facing strong political opponents in the constituency, he continued to stand with party workers and fight for the Congress Party.
He assured party leaders that justice would eventually prevail and that corrective action would be taken at the appropriate time.
Addressing Block Congress President and former councillor Navdeep Singh Sona, Channi said there was no need to be discouraged, as the people had voted in his favor and those responsible for alleged dishonesty would eventually face consequences.
Among those present on the occasion were former Chairman Gurmeet Singh Bhilowal, Block Congress President Navtejpal Singh Sohiya, Sulakhan Singh Kathunangal, Dr. Sukhwinder Singh, Mohan Singh, Sukhwinder Singh Akad, Jaspal Singh Jalalpur, and Manohar Lal Galowali, along with other Congress leaders and workers.
