Amritsar, May 27 (K.L. Jit Walia) – Under the leadership of Rajinder Singh Marwaha, the campaign launched by the Vishav Sikh Chamber of Commerce Punjab to resume trade between India and Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Central Asian countries through the Attari-Wagah border after seven years has received support from former Rajya Sabha MP Shwait Malik.
Rajinder Singh Marwaha stated that Shwait Malik assured them he would strongly raise the demand before Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament.
Shwait Malik said that he would also facilitate a meeting between office bearers of the Vishav Sikh Chamber of Commerce Punjab and Amit Shah during the Parliament session to discuss reopening trade through the Attari Integrated Check Post with Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and other Central Asian countries, along with reopening the Gurdwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib corridor for devotees.
He said that these steps are necessary to revive the economy and business activities of Amritsar.
Shwait Malik recalled that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had personally initiated the “Sada-e-Sarhad” bus service between Delhi and Lahore to improve relations between India and Pakistan, but Pakistan later carried out the Kargil conflict.
He further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also extended a hand of peace by visiting Lahore unexpectedly to attend the birthday celebration of Pakistan’s Prime Minister, but incidents like Uri, Pulwama, and Pahalgam later took place.
Malik stated that despite such challenges, efforts should still be made to create a peaceful atmosphere and revive trade and business relations for the economic prosperity of both countries by adopting a mature and humanitarian approach.
