Chogawan, May 22 (Baghi) – As part of its continued efforts to promote safe and legal travel to the United Kingdom and raise awareness about visa fraud, the British High Commission organized a community outreach session at Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Lopoke, Amritsar under its “Visa Fraud Se Bache” campaign. The program aimed to educate youth, students, and local community members about the risks associated with visa fraud and illegal migration.
British Deputy High Commissioner Chandigarh, Alba Smeriglio, attended the event as the chief guest. Addressing the students during the session, Rajinder S. Nagarkoti, Senior Advisor at the British High Commission, explained how fraudsters exploit people through false promises related to overseas travel, fake documents, and misleading information. He highlighted the serious consequences of illegal migration and emphasized the importance of following only genuine and authorized visa procedures.
Participants were advised to rely only on official and trustworthy sources for travel and migration-related information. Principal Jatinder Singh, IMC member Ripun Gupta, TO Ajitpal Singh, Captain Talwinder Singh, Mandeep Singh (Wireman Instructor), Superintendent Rajiv Kumar, and program host Simranjit Kaur (COPA Instructor), along with the entire staff and students, welcomed the British High Commission delegation and thanked them for organizing the awareness session.
The team also shared information about the British High Commission’s special WhatsApp chatbot, which provides verified guidance related to UK travel in English, Hindi, and Punjabi. The chatbot helps people identify fraudulent activities and understand legal migration pathways. Through the “Visa Fraud Se Bache” campaign, the British High Commission continues to work with educational institutions, community organizations, and local stakeholders across North India to protect people from fraud, promote safe mobility, and strengthen awareness about legal migration systems.
