Amritsar, May 21 (K.L. Jit Walia):- Senior Congress leader and social worker Naresh Chauhan strongly appealed to the Congress high command, saying that the people of Punjab believe that if the party wants to form the government in Punjab in the 2027 elections, then the duo of Navjot Singh Sidhu and Charanjit Singh Channi must be brought forward.
Chauhan said that Navjot Sidhu is highly experienced and has a strong hold in the media. He added that Sidhu enjoys considerable popularity among urban and young voters. He also claimed that the reopening of the Kartarpur Corridor on November 9, 2019, became possible due to Sidhu’s efforts, which earned him immense respect and affection among Sikh devotees.
Speaking about Charanjit Singh Channi, Chauhan said that during his six-month tenure as Chief Minister, electricity rates, which were earlier ₹7.22 per unit, were reduced to ₹3 per unit. He further stated that pending electricity bills up to ₹2 lakh for domestic consumers using up to 2 kilowatts were waived. He also mentioned that the prices of sand and gravel were reduced to around ₹5.50 per cubic foot, helping ordinary people build affordable homes.
Chauhan also criticized the current Punjab government led by Bhagwant Mann, saying that the promise of depositing ₹1000 every month into the accounts of women above 18 years of age has still not been fulfilled. According to him, this has created widespread resentment among women and could become a major issue against the Bhagwant Mann government in the 2027 elections.
He further said that after observing the election results in West Bengal, the Congress high command should take a thoughtful decision regarding Punjab as well.
