Amritsar, May 21 (Harpinder Soni):BJP District President Harvinder Singh Sandhu reacted to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann statement that he would not allow SIR in Punjab, saying that such remarks are highly unfortunate. He stated that creating obstacles in work being carried out in the national interest under the Constitution is clearly an act of sedition, and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann should refrain from making such statements and actions while keeping the dignity of his office in mind.
Harvinder Sandhu said that SIR is a constitutional mechanism authorized by the Election Commission of India. Under this initiative, officials appointed by the Election Commission conduct door-to-door verification with the public to thoroughly revise and update voter lists. He said that SIR is a routine and transparent process of the Election Commission of India (ECI), which includes removing fake votes and adding the names of new young voters.
He further stated that the Chief Minister’s call to stop this process amounts to undermining democracy and directly insulting the Constitution. According to Sandhu, obstructing this process is an attack on democratic institutions and reflects the Chief Minister’s fear of a possible electoral defeat in Punjab.
Sandhu also said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is surrounded by serious issues in Punjab, including deteriorating law and order, rising drug abuse, deaths of youth due to drugs, gangsterism, mafia activities, murders, extortion, corruption, and increasing state debt. He alleged that to divert public attention, the Chief Minister repeatedly accuses the BJP of interfering in every government and constitutional process in an attempt to gain sympathy.
He added that the people of Punjab have now seen through the false promises of the AAP government and have made up their minds to bring the BJP to power in Punjab in the coming elections.
