Amritsar, May 18 (K.L. Jit Walia) – In a major breakthrough under the ongoing campaign to make Punjab a safer state, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted a drug and illegal arms smuggling module by arresting one accused with 2.1 kilograms of heroin and seven sophisticated pistols. The information was shared by Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav.
The arrested accused has been identified as Khush Kumar alias Bholu (26), a resident of Gurwali Gate, Amritsar. According to police officials, the accused has a criminal background and multiple cases under the NDPS Act, Arms Act, and snatching cases are already registered against him.
The recovered weapons include one 9mm Gladiator pistol (made in Turkey), one 9mm Zigana X-Shot pistol, one .30 bore Beretta pistol (made in Italy), one .30 bore Zigana pistol (made in China), one .30 bore pistol (made in Austria), another .30 bore pistol (made in China), and one additional .30 bore pistol.
DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused was in contact with a foreign-based handler through virtual numbers. He said that consignments of heroin and illegal weapons were being delivered across the border through drones and were later supplied to criminal elements by the accused.
The DGP further added that further investigation is underway to identify the forward and backward linkages of the network and trace other individuals involved in the smuggling module.
Sharing operational details, Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that acting on specific intelligence inputs, police teams arrested Khush alias Bholu and recovered 2.1 kilograms of heroin from his possession. During continuous interrogation and follow-up investigation, seven pistols were also recovered.
The Police Commissioner said that investigation has also revealed that the recovered pistols were intended to be supplied to criminal elements for carrying out unlawful activities. However, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police acted swiftly and arrested the accused before the weapons could be further distributed.
In this connection, FIR No. 60 dated May 12, 2026, has been registered under Section 21-C of the NDPS Act and Section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station C-Division, Amritsar.
