Amritsar, May 17 (K.L. Jit Walia) – The construction work of a new Gurdwara Sahib building formally began today with a traditional foundation ceremony (Tapp) at Bhai Gurdas Ji Nagar, New Amritsar, located on the G.T. Road in Amritsar.
Earlier, on the auspicious occasion of Vaisakhi on April 14, a partial structure had been prepared where the Prakash of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji was performed. Since then, thousands of devotees and local residents of New Amritsar have been regularly performing seva and religious duties with full devotion and according to Sikh traditions.
Today, the formal construction work of the Gurdwara Sahib building commenced in the presence of several religious and social dignitaries. The foundation ceremony was jointly initiated by Baba Kashmir Singh Bhuriwale, Bibi Inderjit Kaur (Head of Pingalwara संस्था), Bhai Gurmej Singh (former Hazoori Ragi of Sri Harmandir Sahib), Baba Sukhwinder Singh Bhuriwale, and Jathedar Gurdial Singh Chhajjalwadi.
Prominent personalities present on the occasion included Punjab PWD Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO along with his wife Sukhdeep Kaur, MLA Jeevan Jyot Kaur, Gurkawal Mann, Amritsar Welfare Association President Rashpal Singh Chauhan, Jagmohan Singh Marshal, Jaswinder Singh Advocate from Akal Purakh Ki Fauj, and Kuljit Singh Bardarwale among others.
The organizers informed that approximately 2300 square yards of land, falling under the Improvement Trust area, has been acquired with the support and contributions of the Sangat. A magnificent three-storey Gurdwara Sahib building is planned to be constructed on this land.
Although devotees from New Amritsar and surrounding areas are already contributing generously towards the construction, the management committee appealed to the Sangat to continue extending financial support wholeheartedly so that the sacred project can be completed smoothly and beautifully.
During the event, devotional hymns were performed by Ragi Bhai Ranjit Singh Tarsikka and the “Gavho Sachi Bani” women’s jatha. Members of the Gulmohar Park Association of Bhai Gurdas Ji Nagar also organized a continuous Chhabil service of sweetened cold milk throughout the day. Guru Ka Langar was served continuously to the devotees.
A large number of devotees and prominent residents including Surjit Singh Rahi, Harinder Singh Bagga, Rana Palwinder Daburji, Bhupinder Singh, Judge Kumar, Rakesh Kumar, Jatinder Singh Sandhu, former Gurdwara Committee President Amardeep Singh, Harjit Singh, Professor Mukesh Aggarwal, P.N. Sharma, Harvinder Singh Arora, Chatarjit Singh Goldy, Avtar Singh Kanda, Narendra Singh Sohi and many others were present on the occasion.
