Amritsar, December 2 (K. L. Jit Walia):- Following the directions of Municipal Corporation Amritsar Commissioner Vikramjit Singh Shergill and Joint Commissioner Jainder Singh, a strict action was carried out against illegal encroachments under the leadership of Municipal Corporation Secretary Sushant Bhatia.
The Estate/Land Department team conducted a drive in the lanes, roads, areas outside shops, verandahs, and footpaths in front of U.T. Market near the Guru Nanak Dev University area, where illegal encroachments had been made. During the operation, goods belonging to persons who had temporarily encroached upon municipal land were seized and deposited at the Municipal Corporation’s Bhagtanwala store/premises. The concerned individuals were strictly warned not to repeat such illegal encroachments in the future.
Additionally, illegal encroachments by nearby shopkeepers and street vendors were also removed. They were instructed to keep their goods strictly within the prescribed limits of their shops. Street vendors and shopkeepers were further advised not to use single-use plastic and were directed to install dustbins near their food stalls or carts so that waste could be disposed of properly.

The Municipal Corporation appealed to the public for cooperation to further improve the cleanliness and beauty of the holy city of Amritsar. The Hon’ble Commissioner also urged citizens not to encroach upon municipal land, as such actions tarnish the image of the Municipal Corporation. He warned that if anyone is found indulging in illegal encroachment again, strict legal action will be taken against them under the PMC Act, 1976.
Officials present during today’s drive included Mrs. Preeti Chauhan, Inspector Amal Kumar, Sukhvinder Singh, Vikramjit Singh, Bunty, along with the Municipal Corporation police force.
