Amritsar, April 30 (K.L. Jit Walia):Following the directions of Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal and under the guidance of former minister and senior Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia, a large number of Akali leaders and workers from various villages of Majitha constituency and Majitha town staged a protest outside the Majitha Power House against prolonged power cuts.
Addressing the large gathering during the protest, Major Shivcharan Singh, political secretary to Bikram Singh Majithia, said that the Aam Aadmi Party government has troubled people in both villages and cities by failing to provide adequate electricity during the extreme summer heat.
He said that the Shiromani Akali Dal had made Punjab a power-surplus state, generating surplus electricity and ensuring comfort for the people. However, the current government has pushed common citizens, traders, shopkeepers, and commercial establishments—whose livelihoods depend on electricity—towards hardship and financial distress by failing to provide adequate power supply.
Major Shivcharan Singh and other speakers accused the government of poor preparation in the power department and of deceiving the public. They alleged that before the start of summer, the government failed to make proper arrangements regarding power purchase, power exchange, and necessary infrastructure preparations.
They stated that due to this negligence, people are now facing severe hardship, with 8 to 12-hour power cuts being imposed across Majitha and the rest of Punjab, badly affecting agriculture, industry, and domestic consumers. They said life has become extremely difficult in the summer without electricity.
The leaders added that the AAP government had promised 24-hour electricity supply during elections, but people are now being forced to sit in darkness for up to 12 hours a day. They demanded that the government immediately bridge the power shortage and provide relief to the people of the state.
Prominent leaders and workers present on the occasion included:
Major Shivcharan Singh, Advocate Rakesh Prashar, Gagandeep Singh Bhakna, Kuljit Singh Brar, Kulwinder Singh Dhaliwal (all Political Secretaries to Majithia), Sarabjit Singh Supariwind (Vice President, Shiromani Akali Dal), Former President Tarun Abrol, President Salwant Singh Seth, Senior Vice President Prince Nayar, Surinderpal Gokal, Avtar Singh Gill, Former Vice Chairman Durga Dass, Deepak Aadhatiya, Balbir Singh Chandi (Former Chairman, Market Committee), Former Chairman Harvinder Singh Kotla, Former Chairman Amandeep Gill Supariwind, Tejvir Singh Siyalka, Nirmal Singh (Sarpanch, Veeram), Gurwinder Singh Bhoma, Gurbhej Singh Sona, Jaspal Singh Bhoa, Jail Singh Gopalpur, Balraj Singh Gopalpura, Navjinder Singh Gandhi Nibberwind, Ajay Chopra, Bau Naresh Kumar, Billa Shah Aadhatiya, Bhinda Majitha Dehati, Zobanpreet Singh Gill, Rashpal Singh Gill, Jatinderpal Saba Hamja, Love Panch Sohian Kalan, Harkirat Singh Shaheed, Makhan Singh Hariyan, Latti Numberdar, Harjit Singh Manager, Prabhpal Singh Jhande, Baljinder Singh Mappi, Jathedar Harpal Singh, Sukhjit Singh Ludhhar, Hardayal Singh Ludhhar, Navjit Singh Chandi, Baba Mahinder Singh, Gurjit Singh Sahnewali, Satbir Singh (Former Sarpanch, Kotla Tarkhana), Sarabjit Singh Chandi, and other Akali leaders.
