Amritsar, April 30 (K.L. Jit Walia, Phuljit Varpal):Due to the lack of uninterrupted power supply in Punjab and the continuous long power cuts, people are facing severe inconvenience. In protest against this, the Shiromani Akali Dal, under the directions of party president Sukhbir Singh Badal and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia, organized a massive protest outside the electricity office at Mustafabad, Batala Road in East Constituency under the leadership of Gurpreet Singh Randhawa, in-charge of the East Constituency.
Addressing the gathering, party leaders said that prolonged power cuts during the scorching heat have made life extremely difficult for the common people, and the situation may worsen further in the coming days. They stated that while electricity demand in Punjab is continuously increasing, the government has failed to meet the requirement.
Senior leaders Jimmy Walia and Harpal Singh Ahluwalia said that during the Akali government from 2007 to 2017, under the leadership of Sukhbir Singh Badal, Punjab was made a power-surplus state producing more electricity than its consumption. However, after that, neither the Congress government nor the present government increased power generation, due to which the electricity crisis has now taken a serious turn.
They said electricity has become the most basic necessity for every household, and the Akali Dal is raising the voice of the people through such protest demonstrations. Youth Akali Dal National General Secretary Sandeep Singh Sunny and Mohan Singh Shaila Walia said that the only solution to all these issues is to bring an Akali Dal government to power in 2027.
