Heated Argument Erupts Between Bikram Majithia and Police
Majitha, May 31 (Subhash Chandra Bhagat): A protest was held today outside Majitha Police Station by members of a farmers’ union regarding the arrest of a young man. During the protest, senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia arrived at the police station along with his supporters.
Majithia sought information regarding the arrest of Jobanpreet Singh, who had been taken into custody by the police. ASI Rachhpal Singh informed him that Jobanpreet Singh had been arrested from his residence at around 5:30 a.m. and brought to Majitha Police Station. However, he stated that he was unaware of where Jobanpreet was being kept.
Majithia pressed the police to produce Jobanpreet Singh before him and alleged that the arrest was an act of political vendetta. He stated that Jobanpreet was an Akali Dal worker and had also served as an election agent during the Majitha Municipal Council elections.
Expressing suspicion that the police might falsely implicate Jobanpreet in a fabricated encounter case, Majithia personally entered the police station and went to the SHO’s office, where he reportedly found Jobanpreet sitting in an inner room with a police officer. Majithia then attempted to take him away.Following this, SHO Naresh Kumar and DSP Kamalmeet Singh reached the spot and intervened, preventing Majithia from doing so. This led to a heated exchange and confrontation between Majithia and the police officials.
As tensions escalated, DSP Kamalmeet Singh requested additional police assistance. A large police force led by IPS officer Aditya S. Warrier, SP (Amritsar Rural), arrived at the Majitha Police Station. Other officials present included DSP Inderjit Singh, DSP Kapil Kaushal, DSP Gurinderpal Singh, SHO Naresh Kumar, Avtar Singh, and Kathunangal SHO Himanshu Bhagat, who helped bring the situation under control.
DSP Kamalmeet Singh stated that Jobanpreet Singh’s name had been included among 15 unidentified persons accused of attacking Aam Aadmi Party worker Paramjit Singh Pamma and snatching his gold chain during the Municipal Council elections. The protest was eventually called off by members of the farmers’ union. Majithia demanded a speedy resolution of the case and justice for Jobanpreet Singh.
