Amritsar, April 19 (K.L. Jit Walia) – The elections of the Press Club Amritsar were conducted peacefully, with the “Chardha Suraj” group securing a decisive victory. Candidates from this group outperformed their rivals on most posts.
In the presidential contest, Rajesh Gill won with 164 votes, earning the honor of becoming president for the third time. His opponents received the following votes: Jasbir Singh Patti – 135 votes, Kamal Kishore Pahalwan – 42 votes, and Ranjit Singh Mason – 21 votes, while NOTA received 1 vote. A total of 348 votes were cast for this position.
For the post of Joint Secretary, Harmeet Singh secured victory with 231 votes, defeating Jyoti Bahl, who received 154 votes. NOTA got 7 votes (total 392 votes).
In the General Secretary race, Resham Singh emerged victorious with 226 votes. His rivals Rajesh Kumar and Yoga Singh received 135 and 30 votes respectively, while NOTA secured 3 votes (total 394 votes).
For Treasurer, Raman Sharma won with 237 votes. Harish Kumar got 127 votes, Kulbir Singh received 25 votes, and NOTA got 3 votes (total 392 votes).
In the Secretary post, Rajinder Singh Ruby secured 229 votes, defeating Vishal Kumar who got 166 votes. NOTA received 5 votes (total 400 votes).
For Senior Vice President, Vipin Kumar Rana won with 219 votes, while Mamta Sharma received 137 votes and Ramesh Kumar got 32 votes. NOTA secured 3 votes (total 391 votes).
For the Vice President position, Vikramjit Sharma won with 232 votes, defeating Prithipal Singh who received 157 votes. NOTA got 6 votes (total 395 votes).
Following the announcement of the results, a wave of celebration spread among the winning candidates and their supporters. Meanwhile, the defeated candidates accepted the outcome in the true spirit of democracy. The elections witnessed enthusiastic participation from journalists not only from Amritsar city but also from Majitha, Ajnala, Baba Bakala, Jandiala, Attari, Rayya, and Tangra regions, who exercised their voting rights in large numbers.
