Amritsar March 9 – Tarsem Singh Senior Vice President of the prominent social organization Majha Welfare Society raised an important issue concerning senior citizen pensioners and urged the Punjab government to immediately issue clear guidelines on the matter.
While speaking to journalists Tarsem Singh said that during the past few days many senior citizen pensioners have been receiving messages on their mobile phones regarding the submission of a Digital Life Certificate. According to these messages if the certificate is not submitted soon their pension may be stopped. Because of this warning a large number of elderly pensioners have become worried and are repeatedly visiting banks for clarification.
He further explained that when some pensioners approached a local branch of Punjab & Sind Bank to seek information the bank officials informed them that no official instructions regarding the Digital Life Certificate have yet been issued by the Government of Punjab. As a result bank employees themselves are unable to provide clear information which has increased confusion among pensioners.
Tarsem Singh questioned that if the government has not yet implemented this process then how such messages are being sent to pensioners. He pointed out that because of this situation elderly pensioners especially those between seventy and seventy five years of age or even older are facing unnecessary difficulties and are being forced to visit banks again and again.
Appealing to the Punjab government Tarsem Singh requested that clear directions should be issued at the earliest and banks should also be officially informed so that pensioners do not face inconvenience or confusion.
He concluded by saying that the government and concerned departments should keep the convenience of elderly pensioners in mind and create a system where they do not have to make unnecessary visits to offices or banks and their pensions continue to be received on time without any interruption.
