Amritsar, February 16 — In a step toward strengthening access to justice through technology, an e-meeting (video conferencing) facility was inaugurated at the Session Division Amritsar. Through this facility, inmates lodged in jail will be able to communicate with their lawyers via video conferencing.
The initiative has been undertaken under the guidance of Justice Ashwini Kumar Mishra and Justice Rohit Kapoor, Administrative Judge of Session Division Amritsar. The facility will help prisoners receive timely legal advice and reduce the difficulties associated with producing them physically in court.
During the ceremony, Justice Rohit Kapoor said that this step is an important effort to promote the use of technology in the judicial system. He added that it will reduce transportation costs and security risks involved in bringing inmates to court, ease the burden on police and jail authorities, and help expedite case hearings.
On the occasion, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairperson of the District Legal Services Authority Amritsar, Jatinder Kaur, said that the facility is a significant step toward making the justice system more effective and streamlined.
Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority Amritsar, Amardeep Singh Bains, along with all judicial officers of the Session Division, were also present. Amardeep Singh Bains noted that the facility will reduce expenses and security risks while assisting in the speedy disposal of cases.
On the same day, the foundation stone was also laid for installing lifts in the court complex for the convenience of lawyers and the general public, providing additional ease to visitors. The Session Division Amritsar continues to make efforts to modernize and strengthen the judicial system.
