Amritsar, January 30 (K.L. Jit Walia):- In connection with the case of the disappearance of 328 sacred saroops (holy scriptures) from Sri Harmandir Sahib in the year 2016, employees of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) have recorded their statements before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Punjab government.
The case has been under discussion for a long time, and various Sikh organizations have repeatedly protested over the issue. A petition related to the matter is also pending before the Hon’ble High Court, where hearings are ongoing.
According to available information, some of the employees whose statements were recorded in earlier investigation reports appeared before the SIT at the Police Commissioner’s office. Their statements were recorded in the presence of SGPC advocate Amanbir Singh Siyali and Manager Rajinder Singh Ruby.
The employees whose statements are reported to have been recorded include Punjab Singh (Assistant Accountant), Malkit Singh (Superintendent, Prachar), Simranjit Singh Kang (In-charge), Harpreet Singh (Gurdwara Inspector), Amarjit Singh (CA Assistant), and Joga Singh (Sewadar). It is also being stated that one employee had already recorded his statement earlier.
Advocate Amanbir Singh Siyali said that the SGPC is fully cooperating with the investigation. He informed that some employees have already retired, while departmental action has already been taken against some others.
Earlier, information had also surfaced regarding the arrest of some individuals connected with the case, while others were reported to be absconding. At present, the investigation into the entire matter is continuing under the SIT.
