All religious festivals should be celebrated together – Harvinder Sandhu
Amritsar January 13 (K L Jit Walia):- The festivals of Lohri and Maghi symbolizing joy and enthusiasm were celebrated with great fervor by various departments of Guru Nanak Dev University. On this occasion the Security Department organized an impressive Lohri and Maghi ceremony under the supervision of Chief Security Officer and former Punjab Police Commandant Harvinder Singh Sandhu.
A large number of employees and officers from security and non security departments participated enthusiastically in the celebration. After performing the ritual of lighting the bonfire all present offered peanuts revri chirwaare puffed rice and gachak into the sacred fire bowed their heads and prayed for the welfare of all.
Addressing the gathering Harvinder Singh Sandhu said that while the duty of the department is to ensure the safety of life and property of every section associated with GNDU it is also a moral responsibility to share happiness by celebrating festivals that hold an important place in Punjabi heritage customs and traditions. Such celebrations help remove mutual misunderstandings and strengthen bonds of love and affection.
He emphasized that festivals of all religions should be celebrated together as every religion teaches love for humanity. He also appealed to people to stay away from Chinese string celebrate festivals safely and give special importance to celebrating Lohri of newborn daughters on a larger scale.
On this occasion traditional Lohri songs were sung and employees and officers added color to the celebrations through gidda and bhangra an integral part of Punjabi culture. At the end prasad comprising peanuts revri chirwaare puffed rice and gachak was also distributed.
Those present included senior supervisors Ram Lubhaya Sahib Singh and Jasbir Singh assistant supervisors Joginder Singh and Naib Singh president Resham Singh along with a large number of male and female security guards.
