Chandigarh/Amritsar, September 3 (K.L. Jeet Walia, Arun Sharma): In a major success during the campaign launched under the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to make Punjab a safe state, Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted an illegal arms supply network by arresting two persons with eight illegal .30-bore pistols and 103 live cartridges. This information was shared by Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav today.
The arrested persons have been identified as Ranjit Singh alias Jeeta (24), a resident of village Banka, Tarn Taran, and Gurbir Singh alias Gora (32), a resident of village Tara Singh, Tarn Taran. Accused Ranjit alias Jeeta has a criminal background, with several cases registered against him under the Arms Act, NDPS Act and Explosives Act.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were allegedly in contact with foreign smugglers through social media applications. He said both arrested accused were receiving consignments of illegal foreign-made weapons and supplying them to criminal elements in the state.
The DGP said further investigation is underway to establish the forward and backward linkages of the case and identify all individuals associated with the illegal arms supply network.
Giving details of the operation, Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Harmanbir Singh Gill said that acting on a tip-off, police set up a checkpoint near Gurdwara Bohri Sahib Road and arrested Ranjit Singh alias Jeeta with one .30-bore pistol and three live cartridges. During further investigation, four more .30-bore pistols and 100 live cartridges were recovered from his possession.
The CP said that during interrogation of Ranjit alias Jeeta, his associate was identified as Gurbir alias Gora, who was subsequently arrested by the police. Three .30-bore pistols were recovered from his possession. Investigation revealed that accused Gurbir alias Gora had returned from Dubai approximately six months ago.
In this connection, FIR No. 264 dated August 30, 2026, under Section 25 (6, 7, 8) of the Arms Act, has been registered at Police Station Islamabad, Amritsar Commissionerate.
