Appeal made to Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge
Amritsar, September 2 (K.L. Jit Walia): Senior Congress leader and President of the Arora Khatri Mahasabha Punjab, Sanjeev Arora, expressed concern over the current situation in the Punjab Congress. He said that those who are suffering the most today are the old and grassroots Congress workers for whom Congress is not merely a political party but an integral part of their life and ideology.
Sanjeev Arora said, “Those who have been associated with Congress since childhood, in whose veins Congress runs and in whose hearts Congress resides, are deeply saddened to see the factionalism and internal conflict within the party. Today, there is no need for internal fighting; the need of the hour is to strengthen Congress.”
He appealed to Congress high command leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge to entrust the leadership of Punjab Congress to a leader who does not belong to any particular faction but can emerge as a leader of the entire Congress and take everyone along.
Sanjeev Arora said that Gurjeet Singh Aujla is a strong option for this role. According to him, Aujla has recognition and acceptance across all three regions of Punjab — Majha, Malwa and Doaba. He is connected with the common people, understands their problems and has established a distinct identity by standing with Congress workers. Arora said that Aujla has the ability to reduce the distances that have emerged within the party and once again unite and strengthen the Congress.
He said that if the high command wishes, it can conduct an independent survey in Punjab to seek the views of Congress workers and the general public, enabling an impartial decision based on grassroots acceptance. He appealed that a decision on the matter should be taken at the earliest, as time is extremely important for Congress.
Sanjeev Arora said that Punjab Congress should now focus its energy not on internal conflicts but on a vision for the better future of Punjab. People want concrete solutions to issues concerning employment, industry, electricity, farmers, government employees and ordinary families.
He said Congress should approach the people with a clear roadmap on issues such as free electricity up to 500 units, promotion of industries, necessary concessions in electricity, employment opportunities for youth, reforms in rules related to panchayat lands, ensuring benefits of rights to people living within the Lal Dora, and payment of legitimate dues of government employees.
Sanjeev Arora said, “The old and dedicated workers of Congress are still standing firmly with the party. We only need united leadership. If we end factionalism and become the voice of the people, Congress can once again become strong in Punjab. By bringing forward a grassroots and widely acceptable leader like Gurjeet Aujla, the high command can take an important step in this direction.”
