Cabinet Minister also visits Central Jail Amritsar and seeks feedback from inmates regarding facilities and arrangements
Amritsar, August 17 (K.L. Jit Walia): Punjab Jail Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh on Sunday inaugurated a 30-bed ward for prisoners established by the Punjab Government at Guru Nanak Medical College and Hospital, Amritsar. On the occasion, he said that the new ward is an important initiative of the Punjab Government towards providing better and quality healthcare facilities to prisoners and undertrial inmates.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ravjot Singh said that prisoners and undertrial inmates are also part of society and it is the responsibility of the government to ensure that they receive necessary healthcare facilities. He said the newly established 30-bed ward would provide essential medical treatment and healthcare services to prisoners and undertrials. Proper arrangements have also been made to ensure their security during treatment.
The Jail Minister said that the Punjab Government is continuously working to strengthen healthcare facilities in prisons. He emphasized that along with physical health, the mental health of inmates also needs special attention. Efforts are being made to provide the services of specialist doctors and other necessary healthcare facilities.
Dr. Ravjot Singh inspected the newly established ward and reviewed the facilities available there. He directed the concerned officials to ensure quality treatment, cleanliness and security while providing healthcare services to prisoners and undertrial inmates.
Additional Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Amritsar Jai Inder Singh, Medical Superintendent GNDH Dr. Karamjit Singh, Officiating Director and Principal Dr. Mridu Gupta, Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr. I.P.S. Grover, Jail Superintendent Rajiv, DIG Shri Maan, IPS, Deputy Superintendent Jail Navinder Singh, Dr. Neeru Attri and other officials and staff were present on the occasion.
Cabinet Minister Also Visits Central Jail Amritsar
Following the inauguration, Cabinet Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh also visited Central Jail Amritsar. During the visit, he reviewed the facilities being provided to prisoners and undertrial inmates as well as the overall functioning and arrangements of the jail.
The minister interacted with prisoners and undertrial inmates and sought their feedback regarding the facilities and arrangements available to them. He also listened to their concerns and directed the concerned officials to ensure that their genuine needs are addressed and necessary facilities are provided as per the rules.
The Cabinet Minister instructed jail officials to maintain strong security arrangements while giving equal attention to the health, hygiene, food and other basic facilities of prisoners and undertrial inmates, so that the prison administration can function more effectively and smoothly.
