Amritsar, August 10 (K.L. Jit Walia): In accordance with the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Sunday reviewed security arrangements across sensitive areas, major public gathering places, key urban locations and important institutions to ensure peaceful celebrations of Independence Day 2026.
During his tour, the DGP held meetings with senior officers of the Amritsar, Jalandhar and Ludhiana Commissionerates as well as the Border, Jalandhar and Ludhiana Police Ranges. He reviewed the law-and-order situation and directed officers to strengthen inter-district coordination, strict checking and round-the-clock surveillance.
Starting his visit from Amritsar, DGP Gaurav Yadav reviewed security arrangements in sensitive border areas. He directed all units to maintain heightened vigilance, intensify preventive measures, strengthen patrolling and surveillance, and ensure proper management of crowded areas.
Emphasising the importance of Independence Day celebrations, the DGP said that effective coordination among security agencies and proactive assessment of emerging challenges remain key priorities of the Punjab Police.
After Amritsar, the DGP visited Jalandhar to personally assess preparations of the Commissionerate Police Jalandhar and Jalandhar Range, covering Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur and SBS Nagar districts. He briefed officers about existing security threats and stressed the need for greater alertness, strategic deployment of personnel and a quick-response mechanism so that citizens can celebrate Independence Day safely and confidently.
Appreciating the professionalism and commitment of the police force, he directed officers to remain more alert, accessible and accountable to the public.
At the end of his tour, DGP Gaurav Yadav chaired a security review meeting with officers of Commissionerate Police Ludhiana and Ludhiana Range regarding preparations for Independence Day. He directed officers to ensure effective deployment of personnel and pay special attention to securing event venues and places witnessing large public gatherings.
