Mandal May Launch Agitation if July 22 Meeting Fails to Produce Concrete Solutions
Amritsar, July 14 (K.L. Jit Walia):- The executive committee of the Punjab Pradesh Vyapar Mandal (Registered), Amritsar Unit, held an important meeting at the Mandal office in Katra Sher Singh under the leadership of Unit President Surinder Duggal. The meeting focused on various issues affecting the trading community and urged the government to resolve them at the earliest.
Members expressed concern over the functioning of the GST Department, the increasing tax burden on traders, and inspection drives being carried out at business establishments. They stated that while the government assures traders of resolving their issues, pressure is simultaneously being exerted on them to deposit additional taxes, leading to growing resentment among the business community.
The Mandal also raised concerns regarding the lack of effective regulation of online sales. Members said that unregulated online trade is adversely affecting traditional businesses and causing significant revenue losses to both the Central and State Governments.
It was informed during the meeting that on July 22, a delegation led by Punjab Pradesh Vyapar Mandal President Pyare Lal Seth, along with representatives of 52 trade associations from Amritsar, will meet the ETC, AETC-1, and AETC-2 of the GST Department. If no concrete solution emerges from the meeting, the Amritsar Unit will convene another meeting to formulate a strategy for protests, demonstrations, and other forms of agitation.
The executive committee also discussed the ongoing dispute related to the Majitha Mandi Association. Discussions were held with executive members B.K. Bajaj and Anil Mehra. The Mandal emphasized the historical and commercial importance of Majitha Mandi in the holy city of Amritsar, noting that it serves as a key trading hub with Afghanistan and other domestic and international markets.
The Mandal appealed to all concerned parties to maintain restraint and resolve the dispute through mutual dialogue. It also assured full cooperation in finding an amicable solution.
Among those present were Surinder Duggal, Rakesh Thukral, Balbir Bhasin (General Secretary), Ravi Arora, Ranjit Singh Nagpal, Deepak Mehra, Manjit Sood, Raminder Sodhi, Sunil Chopra, Ginni Bhatia, Amit Kohli, O.P. Bulani, Harvinder Arora, Bhamesh Juneja, Vikas Narang, Gurdeep Singh, and representatives of several trade associations.
